Updates and corrections

When a pay scale, rate or rule changes, or we correct a mistake, it's listed here with its date, newest first. How we calculate

  1. Change

Four-weekly pay, other allowances and the pre-2013 scale

The calculator can show pay every 4 weeks, for forces that pay 13 times a year, and takes any other allowance, such as a dog handler's or firearms allowance, as taxed pay that doesn't count towards pension. Constables appointed before April 2013 are now shown on PP7 only, since everyone on that scale has reached the top.

  2. Correction

    Overtime hourly rates

We worked out the basic hourly rate as annual salary divided by 52 weeks of 40 hours. Police Regulations Annex F sets it as annual salary × 6/12520, which is 0.32% lower. Overtime in monthly estimates and in the example on the home page now uses the Annex F formula.

  3. Checked

Checked: Police Pension Scheme 2015 contribution tiers from 1 April 2026

Compared with the published source and confirmed.

  4. Pay scales

England and Wales pay scales from 1 September 2026

Worked out by applying the announced pay award to the previous official scales, rounded to the nearest £3. Marked as calculated until the Home Office publishes the official tables.

  5. Tax year

    2026/27 tax year

Income tax bands for the UK and Scotland, National Insurance, student loan thresholds and police pension contribution rates for the tax year.

  6. Pay scales

Police Scotland pay scales from 1 April 2026

The official Police Scotland pay points for every rank.

  7. Pay scales

England and Wales pay scales from 1 September 2025

The official pay points from the Home Office determination, for every rank, with London weighting and the South East Allowance.
