Police pay award 2026: before and after for every rank
Police pay in England and Wales went up by 3.5% from 1 September 2026. The tables show each pay point before and after, and how much more you take home each month after tax, National Insurance and pension.
The Home Office hasn't published the official pay point tables yet, so the new figures apply the award to the previous scales, rounded to the nearest £3 as pay points always are. We'll switch to the official tables when they're out.

Back pay
The award counts from 1 September 2026. If your force starts paying the new rates later, the difference for the months in between is paid as back pay, usually in one lump sum.
For a constable on pay point 4, the difference is £102.50 a month before deductions, so three months of back pay would be about £307.50 before tax. Back pay is taxed in the month you receive it, so that month's deductions can look higher than usual.

How these figures are worked out
- Both columns use 2026/27 tax rates, so the change shows the effect of the award alone.
- Take-home assumes full-time hours, tax code 1257L and the 2015 police pension scheme, with no allowances, student loan or other deductions.
- The previous scales applied from 1 September 2025.
- Tax, National Insurance and pay rules last checked 27 October 2026.
